Tarquinia only 20 minutes drive to the north of Civitavecchia, has an amazing medieval centre characterized by quaint lanes, romanesque churches and high walls interrupted by towers. It has Etruscan origins and it preserves the most ancient paintings of the italic culture: those made by the Etruscans in their chamber tombs (nowadays aknowledged as a UNESCO site) in between the 8th and the 3rd centuries b.C. 

The local Archaeological Museum located in the beautiful 14 hundreds Vitelleschi Palace houses the etruscan findings and the grave goods found in the Necropolis.
