THE REAL LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE , For Food Lovers

 If you are a foodie and you love to experience a place’s culture through food, this is the right tour for you! Because it’s not landmarks that offer the best insight into a place and its culture. It’s food 😋 Through Food and the act of dining, we can really understand a place’s culture and come home with fun experiences that stay with us for years.
 

Few miles far from Civitavecchia, on top of the nearby hills there are two villages: Allumiere and Tolfa. They are immersed in the Mediterranean vegetation and surrounded by a Nature Reserve! They share part of their history, both being under the rule of the Popes in the Renaissance. Nowadays they share a very genuine cuisine rooted in the past traditions and a very relaxed rithm of life! Each one boasts something unique: Tolfa has the biggest pasture raised cattle with cows from “Maremma” and the local cowboys, the so called Butteri, still take care of them; in Allumiere, the local farmers grow ancient grains which have not been modified at all, neither in shape nor genetically, thus preserving their nutritional properties also thanks to the fact that they’re still processed by stone milling. Besides thousands of olive trees provide the whole Community with an excellent extra vergin olive oil!

You will enjoy a guided stroll along the lanes of Tolfa, visit the leather workshop, enter the little grocery shop (the “bottega”) and the Bakery and taste some deli and their most typical produce… but what about lunch? For sure you won’t sit in any touristy restaurant nor any intimate trattoria… but you’ll be welcomed in the nice, cozy, rustic house of a local farmer and olive oil, wine and pasta producer. He will explain to you how the local farmers keep the food quality so high and he’ll prepare the pasta you’ll enjoy for lunch just in front of you!
First course, second course, appetizers, good wine and extravergin olive oil will be on your table: only homemade products, fresh pasta and locally sourced produce! You’ll enjoy my territory like an insider
