In
Umbria the natural environment is made up of rolling hillsides
that slope down from the Appenines to grace the countryside,
ever-champing valleys full of intriguing nooks, a pristine natural
setting, and lakes, waterfalls and spring that act as the perfect
backdrop for magnificent interweaving of streets and alleys behind
their town walls.
Throughout
Italy you can find a large choice of
villas and country houses to rent but you have also the
possibility to experience the “Agriturismi” i.e. farmhouses
restored respecting the traditional architecture of the antique
stone houses and divided into apartments with all modern comforts,
enchantingly uniting age-old tradition with modern amenities.
Most of the Agriturismo properties have their own
restaurants where you can taste typical local cuisine that
strictly follow rural tradition. Activities offered
can include horse riding, mountain biking, hiking trails
and swimming. The
unique environment can be experienced through itineraries that are
easy to cover by foot, horseback, bicycle or jeep, along a minor
network of dirt roads, cartways and forest trails that make it
possible to get away from the peril and noise of city traffic in
order to appreciate unusual views and encounters.
Several
of the properties also offer for sale their own olive oil, cheeses,
honey and homemade jams.
Perugia , the seat of the local
government of Umbria and a beautiful medieval town, is a 2-hour
drive south to Rome and 2 hours north to Florence. Umbria and its
neighbour Tuscany are also filled with enchanting towns, including
Assisi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Spoleto, Todi, Deruta, Siena, Arezzo,
Cortona, lake Trasimeno and many many more.
